Empowering Through Clean-Up Initiatives
Community clean ups are becoming increasingly popular as our need to be more environmentally conscious increases. There's so many little things we can do that make a huge difference within our community that can have long lasting impact.

Benefits of Community Clean Ups
1. Strengthening Community Bonds
Clean ups foster social interaction among neighbours, which is a good thing.
They provide opportunities for residents to meet new people and build friendships.
Working together towards a common goal enhances community pride and unity.
2. Environmental Impact
Community clean ups help reduce litter and pollution in local areas.
They contribute to the overall health of ecosystems and wildlife.
Regular clean ups encourage more sustainable practices among residents.
3. Raising Awareness and Education -especially for the kids!
Clean ups serve as a platform for educating participants and gaining pride.
They raise awareness of the importance of preserving natural spaces.
Participants can learn about proper waste disposal and recycling.
Students can earn community hours for school by participating.
4. Encouraging Civic Responsibility
Taking part in clean ups instills a sense of ownership and responsibility for local spaces.
Community members are more likely to advocate for environmental policies after participating.
Clean ups can inspire long-term commitment to community and environmental care.
7 Easy Ways To Pitch In
Reduce - Reuse - Recycle. Sounds easy, but this basic concept and initiative is often overlooked. How often do you recycle, reuse, or reduce waste? Have you discussed the importance of recycling with your kids (especially those responsible for disposal). FACT: Recycling actually saves on costs of garbage bags.
Donate unwanted items -our Happy Pantry accepts clothing and food pantry items to share with our community free. We can also assist in getting donation pick-ups from Diabetes Canada.
Clean up after your dog. There is often unscooped dog poop left on walkways and common area grass.
Avoid leaving garbage sitting in front door way or back yard for wildlife to mess in. This gets blown around the complex, often shredded in the lawn mower, and does no justice for the community.
Clear debris found on the shorelines, in parks, or around the pathways of our complex. Bring a bag along for a walk, or create a monthly clean up routine with friends or family during nature walks and other outings.
Avoid littering. It's just the wrong thing to do and teach our kids and neighbours. In some cases it's against the law. Remind kids to use the trash or recycle bin, keep a garbage bag in your vehicle to reduce littering, or carry one in your bag during outings.
Keep a designated ashtray or can for cigarette filters.
